Research Projects
Materials questions, experimental evidence and outcomes.
This portfolio groups research by the scientific question and material system. Published work is distinguished from broader research directions that are still being developed.
Transition-metal oxide thermoelectrics.
Research on Magnéli-phase tungsten oxide, where aliovalent substitution is used to modify carrier concentration and phonon transport.
Controlling thermoelectric transport in W₁₈O₄₉.
Research question. Can vanadium substitution reduce electron concentration and improve the balance between Seebeck coefficient, electrical conductivity and thermal conductivity in a conductive tungsten suboxide?
Approach. Compare VO₂ and V₂O₅ as vanadium sources for W₁₈O₄₉-based compositions, followed by solid-state processing and thermoelectric evaluation.
Published outcome. The V₂O₅ route produced a power factor of 0.73 mW m⁻¹ K⁻²; the highest reported ZT was 0.22 at 1073 K for x = 0.10.
Cu substitution in W₁₈O₄₉
