Laboratory Analytical Report
Laboratory Analytical Report
An analytical report communicates measured results together with enough sample, method and quality-control information for the recipient to assess their validity and intended use.
## 1. Essential report content 1. Laboratory identity, report number, issue date and authorized approval. 2. Client and project reference. 3. Sample IDs, matrices, collection and receipt dates, and sample condition. 4. Requested and performed analyses. 5. Analytical methods, preparation and relevant deviations. 6. Results, units, reporting limits and qualifiers. 7. QC summary and data limitations. 8. Authorized sign-off and appendices where required.
## 2. Analytical results template | Sample ID | Analyte | Result | Unit | Method | LOD / LOQ or reporting limit | Qualifier | |—|—|—:|—|—|—|—| | SAMPLE-001 | pH | — | pH units | Method reference | Not applicable / method-defined | — | | SAMPLE-001 | COD | — | mg/L | Method reference | Method-defined | — | | SAMPLE-001 | Lead | — | mg/L | Method reference | Method-defined | — |
Dashes are placeholders, not measured values. State whether results are reported on a dissolved, total or other defined basis.
## 3. Calculations and dilution Show the calculation basis where required, including dilution factors, sample mass or volume, final digest volume and blank correction. Preserve significant figures consistent with method performance and reporting policy.
## 4. Non-detects and qualifiers Use the laboratory’s defined reporting convention. A result below a reporting limit does not establish zero concentration. Distinguish detection limit, quantification limit and contractual reporting limit where these differ.
## 5. QC summary Report the relevant blank, calibration verification, laboratory control sample, duplicate, spike recovery and reference-material outcomes. Identify batch IDs and explain any QC exception or corrective action affecting the result.
## 6. Final technical review Confirm sample identity, method applicability, units, transcription, calculations, limits, qualifiers, QC status, authorization and consistency between the report and raw records.
