Environmental Compliance Audit Checklist

Use this checklist to structure document review, interviews and site verification. Adapt each question to the facility’s actual permits and legal obligations.

## 1. Audit details | Field | Entry | |—|—| | Facility / site | | | Audit date and scope | | | Auditor / participants | | | Applicable permit versions | | | Period covered

## 2. Core checklist | Area | Verification question | Evidence / record | Status | |—|—|—|—| | Legal register | Are applicable permits current and conditions identified? | Permit register | Open / conforming / finding | | Reporting | Were required reports submitted on time? | Submission receipts | | | Wastewater | Are all discharge points identified and monitored as required? | Drainage plan, sample records | | | Air | Are emission sources and control devices covered by applicable conditions? | Source register, test reports | | | Waste | Are waste streams classified, stored and transferred appropriately? | Inventory, manifests | | | Chemicals | Are storage and spill controls maintained? | Inventory, inspections | | | Monitoring | Are methods, calibration and QA/QC documented? | Field and lab records | | | Incidents | Are releases and complaints recorded and addressed? | Incident register | | | Training | Are relevant personnel trained for assigned duties? | Training records | | | Corrective action | Are findings closed with verified evidence? | CAPA register

## 3. Evidence collection Use document sampling, interviews, direct observation and independent verification where appropriate. Record document title, version, date, author, location and relevant page or record identifier. Keep photographs and sample records traceable to their location and time.

## 4. Status definitions - Conforming: sufficient objective evidence demonstrates the requirement was met for the scope and period reviewed. - Potential gap: evidence is incomplete or inconsistent and further verification is required. - Non-conformity: objective evidence demonstrates failure to meet an applicable requirement. - Not applicable: explain the basis; do not leave the field blank without rationale.

## 5. Audit close-out Discuss factual accuracy, agree action owners and due dates, identify urgent containment needs and issue a report that distinguishes verified facts from interpretations.
